Josh Warrington vs Joel Brunker Analysis
Josh Warrington put on a career best performance on Saturday night in Leeds, outpointing Australian Joel Brunker over 12 entertaining rounds. Despite the bout being rather one sided, the tempo of the fight was great from the start to finish and Brunker showed heart, which we all know he has.
Warrington looked good with his combinations and timing being the best I have seen from him in his professional career. Warrington had the wider variety of punches and he was simply quicker and landed at will. Brunker did have brief moments of success though, as he landed a substantial amount of shots throughout each of the twelve rounds. However Warrington’s work rate was far superior to that of the Australians.
Warrington is now going to continue his progression and his next bout will likely be against a top 15 WBC featherweight, which is a requirement if he is to continue to defend his WBC International featherweight title.
Now back onto Joel Brunker. We first met Joel when we interviewed him a few months back leading up to this bout. From what I have seen from Brunker he’s all class. He has interacted with all fans from social media to open workouts and press conferences. He has signed hundreds of signatures and he was quite popular, generating some new UK fans. Essentially even though he lost, he showed courage and did everything he needed to do. His fan base has grown significantly after this loss. All fighters can take a look at how Joel Brunker has conducted himself leading up to this fight and after the fight. This is an example of a humble sportsman.
