New Boxing Notes and Updates : GGG comes up with an Odd Quote.

New Boxing Notes and Updates

Despite having limited boxing around the world this weekend, the KO of the year is here. Mairis Briedis nearly decapitated Manuel Charr with an uppercut, in the 5th round of their bout last night in Russia. If you haven’t seen the footage, drop everything you're doing right now and go find it. This uppercut was a beauty, Briedis didn’t even load up on it. Perfect timing. Briedis now moves to 17-0 and despite fighting a majority of his career at cruiserweight and beating Charr at Heavyweight, this Latvian fighter has some serious power. He's one to watch.

Vanes Martirosyan has been training the house down ahead of his bout with Ishe Smith on the Mayweather vs Berto undercard. Expect Vanes to win this fight comprehensively. At 29 years of age, Vanes knows his time is here and he won’t get a bigger occasion to impress.

The first press conference for GGG vs Lemeiux was this week and interesting statement was captured by global media outlets. With the fight 7 weeks away GGG made the following statement “he’s very dangerous and I’m a little bit scared in my situation”. Now nerves are normal, but GGG is definitely aware of what Lemeiux brings to the table. I recently watched Lemeiux vs Rosado again and based on that, I think the first three rounds of the upcoming fight will be insane. I can’t see this lasting past 6 rounds and as the fight gets closer, the more I see Lemeiux causing a huge upset.

It seems as though the Shane Mosley vs Ricardo Mayorga rematch will go ahead as planned. King had recently sought an injunction to prevent the fight from happening, claiming he had Mayorga to a contract. A final decision is expected early next week, but the fight will more than likely be happening. This should be a fun fight while it lasts, I will go with Mosley by KO in round 3, after some early excitement and knockdowns.

Dereck Chisora will be back in the ring soon, which is great for British boxing. Lucas Browne of Australia is itching for the fight, but it’s more lucrative for the Australian to chase the WBA Interim title, which he is currently ranked #3 for, with #1 being vacant. A bout with Chisora would likely earn Browne around the $200K range, whereas his purse for a shot at the Chagaev title could earn Browne $1m +. Browne would need to travel to Germany or Russia and most likely win the bout against Chagaev by knock out.

Stiverne will likely be pulled from the GGG vs Lemeiux undercard. King has Stiverne under contract and he hasn’t approved of his star heavyweight fighting on this card. Seems as though the deal was made without King's knowledge according to some reliable sources, so it will be interesting to see how this one plays out.

Expect Sakio Bika to announce his next bout in the next 2 weeks. Australian Super Middleweight Blake Caparello is interested in the bout, but expect Bika to co-headline a PBC card, expect Biks to fight Andre Dirrell.
