Boxing News for early August.

Boxing News for early August.

-       Floyd Mayweather has officially announced his bout with Andre Berto. News was circulating that the bout was about to be called off a week ago with Floyd deciding to retire. Then there was a hoax site claiming Floyd got glassed on the weekend. None turned out to be true and Floyd is fighting Berto for the price of $65. I respect everything Floyd has done in his career but I would rather watch this replay on youtube the next morning. I expect a Floyd UD, or possibly Berto gets knocked out late in a heavily one sided fight.
-       Amir Khan has left Al Haymon. Khan was fed up with being promised Mayweather time and time again, only for Floyd to look elsewhere. Khan will now focus his attentions on a home town mega UK clash with Kell Brook. This bout earns Khan more money then he would have made against Floyd. Khan is already earning $2m US per fight and a bout with Brook would likely leave him with a purse close to $10 m US.
-       Brian Rose defeated Carson Jones in an amazing performance on the weekend. Rose showed heart which we all know he has and he outboxed Jones for large portions of the fight. Rose also traded during most rounds and despite the bout being rather one sided, it was very entertaining to watch. Rose has now entered the Anthony Mundine sweepstakes. Mundine is fighting on the 24th of October in Melbourne and negotiations with Rose may have started. News in Australia that Mundine is looking to rematch Green is completely false, with Mundine’s manager Ben Thompson informing me that it was nothing more than cheap talk, (in my opinion most likely from team Green).
-       Despite reports Ortiz vs Stiverne is currently being negotiated for the GGG vs Lemeiux PPV. Stiverne is reporting that he has no idea about this fight and an offer hasn’t taken place. Well pretty sure attempts to make the fight are happening and Stiverne should know what his manager and promoter are doing.
