Tonight one of the brightest prospects in the Heavyweight division Joseph Parker, put in another great performance. Parker stopped Yakup Saglam in 2 rounds in New Zealand. Saglam is a rather durable opponent and he has fought several good names, loosing to Charr in a 2nd round KO, and Solis to a 7th round TKO in 2013. Recently Saglam was on a solid winning streak and he was expected to last a little longer than he did.
Parker was brutal from the outset. His handspeed and combination punching is something to see at the moment. He was savage in the opening round, hurting Yakup with constant power combinations. He was relentless and Yakup was lucky to make it out of the first round. In the 2nd round Yakup avoided a powerful combination from Parker, however the next right hand landed, knocking Yakup down to the canvas brutally. He was stunned and looked suprised by the power in the right hand and although he beat the count, his corner waved off the both.
In comparison to Anthony Joshua, I would say Parker has the quicker hands and better combinations. However Joshua’s power and reach is huge. Joseph Parker is starting to generate buzz around the world and a move to the US to fight seems inevitable.
From here it’s time to consistently step up his level of opponents. I would like to see him against Artur Szpilka next or Chris Arreola next. Both are fights Joseph Parker should win, however Szpilka always comes to fight and it would be entertaining while it lasts with Arreola.
So all in all, another great performance from a future Heavyweight champion.
