Canelo Stops Kirkland In Round 3. Whats Next?
Canelo Alvarez had no trouble in knocking out James Kirkland in 3 rounds today in front of a crowd of 31 000 in Texas. Kirkland did what he normally does, applied relentless pressure and unleashed vicious combinations. However, Canelo was simply to good and sharp, dropping Kirkland twice in brutal fashion before knocking the American out cold in the 3rd round. Kirkland went into the bout by parting ways with former trainer Anne Wolfe, and his streak of loosing without having Anne Wolfe as a trainer continued.
Canelo looked great, he put on an entertaining show and he also showed great sportsmanship after the bout, checking if Kirkland was okay before celebrating. In good news Kirkland is okay but he will once again need to go back to the drawing board. Even with Anne Wolfe the gap in class would have been way to much and I expect Canelo would have still won by knockout, a little later in the fight.
It was a great event with Golden Boy Promotions putting on 16 bouts for fight fans with the card starting at 11AM.
So Who Does Canelo Fight Next?
The first choice is Cotto, assuming Cotto gets past Geale but we aren’t sure that’s going to happen. Read over our previous post to see why Geale is a dark horse in that bout.
The second choice is Joshua Clottey who fought on the undercard today. Clottey doesn’t have a big following but he has had an impressive career and the bout would be easy to sell to the public in the US, since Clottey has fought Pacquiao, Cotto and Margarito in the past.
