Sergio Martinez Retires Due to Knee Injuries

Future Hall Of Famer Sergio Martinez Retires

Sergio Martinez has officially retired and this announcement is expected to reach the media shortly. Martinez has been unable to recover from crippling knee and shoulder injuries. Despite undergoing several operations over the past two years, Martinez has been unable to recover and is reported to have trouble performing easy daily duties such as walking and changing direction while walking.

Martinez should be remembered by boxing fans as a top Junior Middleweight and Middleweight who is highly likely to be inducted into the Hall of Fame in the near future. Martinez had some amazing accomplishments and who can forget how he dismantled Kelly Pavlik to win the Middleweight title and then backed it up by knocking out the iron chinned Paul Williams in a brutal 2nd round.

Martinez has the respect of all boxing and sports fans, he has been a great representative to the sport, always kind to the media and fans. Sergio has also been part of charity campaigns and campaigns against bullying. Martinez had wanted to beat long time rival Miguel Cotto, however he was destroyed in a one sided beat down. Considering the injuries Martinez had going into that bout, the legitimacy of the win should be brought into question. With Martinez’s knee giving way several times during the fight.

Boxing kingdom would like to congratulate Martinez on an amazing career and thank you for all the entertainment you have provided.
