Mayweather Isn’t Money In Australia. Fails To Break PPV Record.

Floyd Mayweather lives by the name ‘Money’ & his addiction with revenue and pay per view sales is well known. But the Pound for Pound King and All Time Great, has failed to break the Australian Pay Per View Record.  Despite Mayweathers Mega Fight with Pacquiao expected to be the biggest PPV event in Australian history, it failed to beat the Anthony Mundine vs Danny Green grudge match, which occurred in 2006.

The US PPV subscriptions are expected to easily blow away the previous record which was Mayweather vs Canelo, according to the early numbers Top Rank’s Bob Arum has seen. It is widely expected the mega fight has broken record viewership numbers in virtually every English speaking boxing market in the world (Apart from Australia). It’s obviously difficult to find information on Russian viewership numbers and other former Soviet Union countries.

Despite poor viewership numbers in UK pubs due to the enormous asking price, the fight is expected to break total PPV sales for individual subscriptions.

So in what may be a blow to Floyd’s nickname. It seems that in Australia. The Money name could actually be given to ‘Mundine’.

Given that in 2006, Australian PPV had a much smaller audience, the fact that the Australian grudge match toppled the Mayweather vs Pacquiao sales. Is bizarre but very intriguing.
